Our go-to eyecare smoothie.
Our go-to eyecare smoothie.
Fruits and vegetables are good sources of Vit A, Vit C, Vit E, and the antioxidants Lutein and Zeaxanthin, compounds known to protect against oxidative stress associated with damage to the optic nerve and other tissues of the eye in glaucoma.
A study conducted amongst 583 women concluded that those who consumed three or more portions of fruit a day were 79% less likely to develop glaucoma than those who only drank one amount of fruit a day. Eating enough fruit and vegetables will not be a cure for glaucoma, but it may lessen your chances of developing it.
Here are the ingredients for the smoothie.
Use Leafy Greens like spinach or kale. Leafy greens reduce the rate of inflammation in cells. Next, add Nuts and Seeds, which are high in Vit E, which keep cells healthy and protect them against free radical damage. Next, add Banana for its high magnesium content. Dietary magnesium may increase blood flow to the eye and protect the retinal ganglion cells. These cells process visual information and transmit it to the brain. It is also these specific cells that get damaged in glaucoma. Finally, add some yogurt or milk to make the smoothie drinkable. Blend and enjoy!
